There are places that make us go back in time, where all the
memories from our past come alive and a feeling of melancholy takes over our
mood. Yesterday I came to Key West for the first time; it was about three in
the afternoon when my friends and I got here. I had heard so much about this place before
that I couldn't wait to get here so I could see with my own eyes what is all
about. This part of the United State has a lot of historic value for Cubans; it
was here where hour national hero Jose Marti lived for a few years. It was from
here that he started collecting money for the Cuban liberation war against
Spain. I wonder how he would feel nowadays if he could see that after all the struggling
Cubans had gone through in order gain our freedom; we had been living under a
dictator for more than half a decade. I
am sure that one day, all Cuban children will have a chance to learn about this
part of our history that is being left out of the lectures.
