I still remember going to the post office to pick up the
mail for my grandmother and how magic to read the letters. She would read them
out loud and then give them to me so I could "check" the spelling.
With the introduction and development of technology we now have endless access
on how we can stay in touch with the ones we love. When it comes to convenience
I prefer text messages, they give you more flexibility on when to answer.
Sometimes we are busy doing something and it is not possible to have a video
call or simply a phone call at that moment, but we can read a text and answer it
later on.
Even though the channels of communication had increased
dramatically in the last few years, there is nothing that can mist up the magic
that receiving and reading a letter has. I still receive letter from my
relatives in Cuba, I always look forward to finding them through the bulk of
advertisement papers. I look at the stamp and instantly my mind is filled with
images of mom walking up the slopes of my neighborhood leading to the post
office on a sunny afternoon with her umbrella and her red bag after struggling
for hours with her old cracked glasses trying to write down everything that is
happening in her life. Letters might be less used every day throughout the
world, but they will always keep their charm.
